Entropion is a condition where the eyelid turns inward. This can cause the eyelashes to rub painfully against the cornea.
Causes of Entropion
Entropion can occur from a variety of causes; if the eyelid position is not treated damage can occur to the cornea leading to vision changes.
Treatment of Entropion
There are several ways to treat this condition and it depends on the etiology and compliance of the eyelid tissue. Lubrication of the cornea or taping of the eyelid can be a temporizing measure until surgery can be done to improve eyelid contour and decrease eye irritation.
Surgical Treatment of Entropion
The eyelid area is numbed with local anesthetic or light sedation through monitored anesthesia care.
